EMBC Mentor Program

At this year's conference, there is a new way for students to get involved with the EMB! Students will have a first-of-its-kind opportunity to get a direct feel for how sessions are synthesized, organized, and structured. This program will also give you a chance to interact with key researchers in your field. There are two different mentorship positions to choose from.

The first pairs the student with a Track Chair, where you will learn how to solicit papers, distribute the reviews, reconcile and finalize reviews, put together a session, schedule the session and assign Session Chairs.

The second position introduces the student to a Session Chair, where you will learn how to work the session and obtain feedback from the session. After arriving early to the session you've signed up for and introducing yourself to the Session Chair, you will have the opportunity to observe how the Chair is coordinating the session up close. Afterwards, depending on the session chair's schedule, you should have the opportunity to ask questions relating to, for example, the topics brought up in the session.

Here's how to get involved. Students who are interested should first find out who they would like to work with, by perusing through the session guide and selecting a chair/co-chair that they would like to be their mentor <html link here>. Next, email the program coordinator Aimee Betker(abetker@ieee.org) with the session, the prospective mentors name and email address, and your relevant contact information. An email will then be sent on your behalf to the selected chair/co-chair asking if they will sponsor you in this program. Please keep in mind that occasionally people are busy, so you may also wish to provide an alternative mentor name.

Who knows, you might meet a mentor or presenter through this opportunity who could end up changing the course of your life!
