Abstract:
A Panel of members of the Academia and Industry communities will discuss topics related to:
- Medical device new product development
- Technology and product idea generation process
- Venture capital (VC) funding, process and sources
- Intellectual property (IP) joint development and sharing between Industry and Academia
- Technology licensing process
- Role of IEEE-EMBS in optimizing Industry-Academia collaboration


The first session, Medical device development: An industry-academia joint venture ?, will focus on the potential for new medical device development in academic centers as well as in industrial settings. This session will cover aspects related to product development, idea generation and sharing, VC funding and IP processes.

The second session, Can EMBS play a role in optimizing key aspects of industry-academia interaction? will discuss how the Medical Device Industry can participate in EMB Annual Conferences in a way that can better benefit members of the academic and industrial communities. The panel will also address items related Biomedical Engineering Departments curricula.

The Panel includes prominent members from industry and academia. An experienced IP attorney will address IP issues that are frequently raised by industry-academia interactions. Completing the Panel, an experienced member of the VC investment community will discuss items related to idea and new product development funding.
