Workshop organizer: Alene Harris, Ph.D., Vanderbilt University
Wednesday, August 30, 2006: 8:00AM - 12:00PM
Speakers: Alene Harris, Ph.D., Department of Teaching and Learning, Peabody College, Vanderbilt University Robert A. Linsenmeier, Ph.D., Biomedical Engineering Department, Northwestern University. This workshop is offered by the VaNTH (Vanderbilt-Northwestern-Texas-Harvard/MIT) Engineering Research Center in Bioengineering Educational Technologies. www.vanth.org. It will cover basic concepts for the design of bioengineering instruction in a challenge-based format that integrates learning science, learning technology, assessment and the domains of bioengineering. The process of instructional design is based on principles from the book, "How People Learn" by Bransford JD, Brown AL, Cocking RR, ed. 1999, National Academy Press, Washington, DC. Educators and graduate students are invited to attend to gain experience in developing challenge-based modules in bioengineering courses. The workshop will also cover information on how to obtain teaching materials and additional ideas from VaNTH that can be used in the bioengineering classroom.
